This month—
The capital-region pollen clock
Know what's in the air before it finds you.
Northern Virginia and D.C. see three distinct pollen waves, plus mold that peaks in warm, damp months. Starting treatment before your season can make it far easier.
Allergies can start at any age, in children and adults alike. They often run in families, and someone with one allergic condition — such as eczema or hay fever — is more likely to have others, like asthma or food allergy.
What is the best method of testing for allergies?
It depends on your history. Skin testing is quick and widely used; blood testing is useful when skin testing isn't suitable; patch testing looks for causes of contact dermatitis; and oral challenges, done under supervision, can confirm whether a food or medication is safe.
What are allergy shots?
Allergy immunotherapy gives gradually increasing doses of the things you're allergic to, helping your immune system become less reactive over time. We offer injections for indoor and outdoor allergies and for stinging-insect allergies.
Can asthma be cured?
There's no permanent cure, but asthma can usually be well controlled. Breathing tests, the right medications, correct inhaler technique and — for eligible patients — biologic injections help most people live active lives.
What is anaphylactic shock?
Anaphylaxis is a severe, whole-body allergic reaction that can be life-threatening. It needs epinephrine and emergency care right away — call 911. Afterwards, an allergist can help identify the cause and show you how to use an EpiPen, Auvi-Q or Adrenaclick.
Do you treat children?
Yes. Both of our physicians are trained to care for children and adults, and Dr. Gondi is also board certified in pediatrics. We see patients from infants to seniors.
Ready for a season that doesn't run your life?
Same-day appointments are available. Most insurance plans accepted. Call the office nearest you or request a visit online.
